🥩 The connection between our schools and community extends all the way to the lunch tray.
Through our Child Nutrition Program, Upshur County Schools recently procured 38 forty-pound cases of ground beef from Shorts Family Farm, bringing locally sourced food directly into our cafeterias. Partnerships like these support local agriculture, strengthen our local economy, and provide students with quality meals made possible by the people who call Upshur County home.

Tuesday’s Halloween Celebration: Clothing & Costume Reminders
Dear Families,
We understand that students are excited to wear their Halloween costumes on Tuesday! Families may choose to send a costume or have their child wear a Halloween shirt, fall colors, or comfortable everyday clothes. Students can enjoy all of the fun with either choice!
We will be walking to Maniac Mountain and enjoying the corn maze and bounce houses. With the recent rain, conditions may be muddy. Please consider that costumes could get dirty, snag on corn stalks, or become caught during activities. Comfortable walking shoes are a must!
We have been told that is very muddy there, so boots may be needed.
Instruction will continue before our celebration, so costumes cannot interfere with learning.
If your family chooses a costume, please follow these guidelines:
• Send a simple, school-appropriate costume that your child can independently put on over their regular clothes just before we leave.
• Masks may not be worn, and costume accessories must remain put away during the instructional day. Please leave toy weapons and large or distracting props at home.
• Staff cannot provide extensive dressing assistance, apply costume makeup, or help with complicated costume changes.
• Choose clothing that allows your child to walk, play, and participate safely. The school cannot be responsible for costumes that become muddy or damaged.
We would love to see students show off their full costumes at Trunk or Treat that evening! Those activities will be better suited for enjoying costumes and accessories.
Families joining our celebration should meet us under the pavilion at Maniac Mountain. Only BOE-approved volunteers may walk with students from school unless prior arrangements have been made with Ms. Lewis.
We ask that you take any snacks that you are bringing with you there. Tables will be labeled by grade level. If you have treat bags for the kids in your child’s class, you may want to send them in on another day.
Thank you for helping us keep Tuesday focused on learning and full of fall fun!

The best learning happens when students aren't just listening, they're participating.
Mrs. Norman brings learning to the floor, creating an environment where students can collaborate, explore ideas, and learn from one another. By meeting students where they are, both physically and academically, instruction becomes more engaging and meaningful.
Active teaching. Active learning. Real growth.

🚌 Bus Stop Safety Is a Shared Responsibility 🛑
Every school day, our students rely on families, bus operators, and motorists working together to ensure a safe trip to and from school. Bus stops are important places where patience and attention matter.
Drivers: When a school bus has its stop arm extended and red warning lights flashing, West Virginia law requires you to stop and remain stopped until the bus resumes motion, the driver signals you to proceed, or the warning lights are turned off.
Violating this law carries serious consequences:
⚠️ First offense: $500-$1,000 fine, possible jail time, and a 60-day license suspension.
⚠️ Second offense: $1,000-$1,500 fine, possible jail time, and a 180-day license suspension.
⚠️ Third or subsequent offense: $2,000 fine, jail time, and a one-year license suspension.
A little extra patience behind the wheel helps keep school transportation running safely and smoothly for everyone. Thank you for doing your part and stopping for the bus. 💛🚌

🍁 As the leaves change and autumn settles in, we're grateful to be part of a community that supports students, values education, and grows together. Here's to building better tomorrows, one season at a time. 🌻📚 #UpshurCountySchools #ILoveWVPublicSchools

We are seeing an uptick in behaviors today after the long weekend inlcuding bathroom vandalism in the girls 345 restroom.
Please talk with students about school expectations as well as their classroom PAX Visions.
PAX visions are completed as a class and are:
-Students and teachers work together to define the classroom environment rather than adults simply handing down rules.
-The document explicitly lists what everyone wants to see, hear, do, and feel more of (peace, productivity, health, and happiness) alongside what they want less of (disruptions or "spleems").
- It is displayed centrally and updated or reviewed throughout the year to help students predict, monitor, and self-regulate their behavior.
Ms. Lewis will be posting visions on Facebook soon!

May calendar for families!

Looking ahead to next week when we take our end of the year IReady Diagnostic Test!
Please encourage students to do their best. We want to see the best picture of their abilities!
We will test each morning on the days listed. Please try to have students at school on time. If they want a hot school breakfast they need to arrive prior to 8:00 to go eat and get to class on time.
Students can earn a ticket by doing these 3 things:
Being at school
Taking their time (the test flags those who rush)
Doing their best work
Students who do those 3 things will get a ticket to enjoy a special treat at the end of each testing day!

Iready Eggstravaganza Family Engagement Activity.
