Hodgesville Elementary School was part of a planned power outage on October 17, but it didn’t stop the staff from learning and working! Staff members packed up their computers, teacher materials, and other necessities including a printer and relocated to Stockert Youth Center for the day. During the day, teachers were able to investigate a new writing curriculum to better meet the needs of the students. Dr. Greenbrier Almond, Board of Education member, and Dr. Sara Stankus, Upshur County Schools Superintendent, stopped by and talked to the staff about the upcoming levy election. Also, staff members planned the upcoming Veteran’s Day recognition and a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) night for families. Teachers also finalized plans for a WV Department of Arts, Culture, and History grant that would allow our students the opportunity to visit the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh with a follow up student created version at Hodgesville Elementary School. A huge thank you to Deborah at Stockert Youth Center for allowing us to use the resources at SYC for the day.
