Students are encouraged to bring personal care items (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, hairbrushes, deodorant, etc.) to donate to senior citizens in Upshur County.
During our Christmas party, every student will make an ornament with their parents. These activities will be in lieu of a student gift exchange. Students will not need to bring a gift for an exchange.
Congratulations to the following students for being selected to represent Hodgesville Elementary School at the Upshur County Spelling Bee:

Cailey Phipps (Alternate)
Collect Box Tops and send them to school by October 23. The class with the most Box Tops wins a popcorn party and 10 minutes extra recess.
Grandparents and other loved family members were invited to Hodgesville Elementary School on September 8, 2017 to celebrate Grandparents Day. Over one hundred visitors gathered in the children’s classrooms for special activities including tracing their hands to make a combined heart proclaiming their love for one another. Other students shared their homemade applesauce with their loved ones and others worked together with their grandparents to follow directions to build a tangram animal. Everyone enjoyed being able to spend quality time together affirming that special bond between grandparents and grandchildren.
Reading IS magic for students at Hodgesville Elementary School. During the summer, the school library was open once a week for a story hour and students had the opportunity to check out books to read at home. In addition, students were challenged to read in a variety of ways at home and complete a READO card. After completing twenty of the reading challenges, students were invited to a Reading is Magic Show by Magician Mark Clayton. At the magic show, Charlotte from Charlotte’s Web gave them a special message “READ.” The magical bunny made an appearance as well. Students were engaged and loved seeing the magic while being inspired to read.
